As a Product Design Consultant for Ford, my objective was to understand the current practices for research documentation and dissemination within Ford, and imagine plausible futures (1-3 years out) that leverage generative AI to analyze both quantitative and qualitative data as inputs and enhance reporting and dissemination, with a strong focus on storytelling.

The researchers we talked to said video gets their findings across better than a report or a slide deck, because stakeholders can see what the participant went through. However, finding and editing the right moments was painfully manual.

Researchers were already doing it by hand
In test sessions, researchers held up a red card when something important happened, so they could find it in the recording later.
IDEATION
Co-ideation and workshop
We had a weekly with the researchers and leaders at Ford to show our progress. I led one ideation workshop, where we all brainstormed ideas together.
What if we automated the system to look for the red card?
And then used Claude Design and Figma Make for fast prototyping!
We sketched a tool that finds a cue, like the card or a gesture, across all the footage.

A blank prompt box assumes you remember every video. We decided to help firs-time users by adding suggested patterns identified on the video.

Researchers had no way to tell the AI it was wrong.
Researchers present to leadership, so they need to correct it. I added flagging and re-analysis to the editor.
